From Eric Hallstrom and Kevin Gregorius: Beer Gut: The band that wasn't. Sometime in 1992-1993 several trouble makers came up with the idea of having an air band. The band would play only air instruments. This probably wasn't the most original concept, except that they took to promoting their band through graffiti absolutely everywhere. The band was called Beer Gut and you couldn't go much of anywhere in Downtown Lincoln or the UNL campus without encountering the face of beer gut. It inspired editorials in the Daily Nebraskan. I have at least one of these saved somewhere, I think. They eventually made the nightly news because of their relentlessness. Not sure if anyone was ever arrested. After some time, the original “members” of Beer Gut were joined by imitators who were also tagging Beer Gut.
