From Tery Daly...This band was entirely unrealized potential. We really only started to hit our stride and figure out what the hell we were doing and where we wanted to go musically in our final days. I didn't hear a lot of bands doing 3 part harmonies besides us.
Tery Daly's list of essential Lincoln releases:
In no particular order other than as they come to me:
13 Nightmares - Shitride - Had Paul Westerberg grown up in Lincoln, The Replacements would have been 13 Nightmares.
Plastik Trumpet - Are You PT? What? A pop masterpiece from right here in Lincoln??? You bet your ass!
Mercy Rule - Providence
Sideshow - Eggplants and Sunspots
Opium Taylor - Boy-White City - Everybody seems to like Fade Machine, Fade Magazine better but I think that album pales in comparison to this one.
The Millions - Raquel
Drive By Honky - Thrift Americana - I like them all. The first one was kind of like the "lo-fi" early version of D-bH, and Double Live Platinum was a great example of the harder late period with John Taylor...the songs were great, but I think the band lost something with the addition of John. Thrift Americana was "Classic" Drive-by. It captured the band at what I think was it's best. I miss this band.
Linoma 1 Compilation - both Linoma I & II captured a moment in time, 1 is far superior, I think.
The Geckos - Thistle - Raw Fucking Power!
The Lepers - The Love From Above - Their last album before leaving Lincoln and a big development songwriting-wise from the first album.
The Trendies - 7 Songs - The Trendies were best experienced live, but it's nice to have something to remind of them.
Pablo's Triangle - s/t - Another band best experienced live, but the album kicks too.
Crush The Clown - Allright...So We're All Going To Hell - I think my feelings about Crush are pretty well established around here, but this CD shows everything that was great about them.
The Black Dahlias - What I Do At Midnight - This album was never released, so most people don't know it, but it's some of Charles' and the band's, best work.
Mister Baby - S/T - 100% Chicks, 100% Trash...Duct Tape and Tequilla...Feedback and fun...
