From Michael Farrar: Case ran Project Imports record store (located in the Berkholder Project in the Haymarket), D.J'd at the Edge (the first location in the Haymarket) and was previously in a short lived project called Bay Fish (or was it Blow Fish?) as well as others that I don't remember. Dyas had been in and out of the Brickyard and Malone center scene, basically playing off and on with who ever would let him - I think he played with Hymn to Joy at a couple of shows when their drummer couldn't make it for some reason or another. He also had been part of Weird Beards. Fynbu had previously been in Hymn To Joy and Four Against One. Farrar had previously been in Weird Beards and put out some self produced solo "experimental" guitar based Tapes under the name 'zendog' (almost everybody would think that it was synth rather than guitar).

Since Case was not only the D.J. at the Edge, but also booked the bands that played there Fish Box had a tendency to show up on stage way too frequently (there was a three month period where we played The Edge every weekend - even our closest friends were sick of seeing/hearing us). We had a semi-Bauhaus, British goth sound with an occasional very hard/heavy metal tinge. While the rest of the local groups like Mercy Rule/13 Nightmares and Red Maxx had that Nirvana/Sound Garden flavor we were trying to bring goth back. We weren't very successful at it, obviously.

The high point of Fish Box for me was when Sara Kovanda made an appearance at one of our gigs. Fynbu knew Sara from way back, and I was working with Doug Marx (her husband at the time). Fortunately for me it was one of our good shows and I guess made an impression on her. I can remember many a surreal evening after wards at Sara and Doug's place where inevitably one of the birds would land on my head (a shaved/bald head never struck me as a good perch, but the birds seemed to think so.

Keat got replaced by Paul Macatee (Red Max and One Dark Rabbit) and Steve got replaced by an Alesis SR-16. This line up turned into gel-403" class="band-link">Morphine Angel.
