I was at an after party, (in the kitchen , nabbing a beer from someone's fridge, when I was tapped on the shoulder by Jared Alberico. He was with Ann Gourlay....from the piano firm's family. He said they had a gig at the Drumstick in about 5 days... would I play? said if I could possibly crash on a couch or some obtain floorspace, I would gladly retain the post. It should be noted that Derek Higgins was the bass player of a band called "Digital Sex" (from Omaha) and was only playing drums at this time to help us out.We played a set at the Drumstick, opening for some larger Texas Rockabilly band as I can recall. We pklayed mostly Motown covers and some funky shit,.... a few originals which I recall most was "Love Slave" Love slave get on down yeah love slave get on down yeah, love slave get on down yeah LOVE SLAVE!!!!!!!!!!! (kind of a James Brown tribute) We actually had more gigs probably than the Sons of Hemingway, but the Sons of Hemingway were a much more artistic statement for those times.
