From Malcom Miles on shows that stand out in his memory - 5) The five slot goes to ALL hardworking local bands over the years including: Lullaby for the Working Class, Leafy Green Things, Bright Eyes, Self Righteous Brothers, Opium Taylor, The Faint, Roosevelt Franklin, 13 Nightmares, Plastik Trumpet, Simon Joyner, Hour Slave, GIO, For Against, Drive by Honkey, Joe Buck, Luck of Aleia, Rosebud, The Sissies, TV City, The Black Dahlias, Darktown House Band, Picknee, Pablo's Triangle

4) The 3 or 4 times I was lucky enough to catch Middle Monkey. Hearing "I Drink" still makes me smile. Eric grooving that bassline live and me lifting my beer, singing "I drink because I'm lonely, I drink because it's there"

3) Any of a dozen or more Mercy Rule shows. I knew there was something excellent going on in Lincoln the first time I looked upon the spotlit trio, their shadows wavering 20 foot high behind them, the blast of sound tearing through the room. "Tell tomorrow I've been thinking. Tell tomorrow I've been dreaming. Tell tomorrow I'll be right here."

2) Any of a hundred Millions shows. From the early quartet playing sparse, dark rock in a nearly empty room with plenty of space to dance to the packed out later shows with brighter, fuller songs. "When's the last time you said something you meant? When's the last time you meant something you said?"

1) New Brass Guns, the first local band that ever caught my ear and made me realize that you didn't have to be from someplace else to be a damn good band. I recall distinctly the first show I saw them play. Lori twirled off the stage, danced through the bar side of Duffy's and then back to the stage. Such brave, inspired living. "Do what you want to do because you want to do it, don't let people influence you to the point where you have to cry."

Just some people playing music but it changed my life.
